Biography
Point and shooting guard Gilbert Arenas in NBA’s Washington Wizards was born January 6, 1982 in Miami, Florida. Arenas is of an African-American and Cuban descent. He was raised by his father in Florida and California after his drug addicted mother abandoned them. He has one daughter born December 12, 2005. He is nicknamed “Agent Zero” and “The Hibachi” by the Washington fans.
Arenas started his NBA career when he was picked by the Golden State Warriors during the 2001 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona. On his second year in the league he received the NBA Most Improved Player Award. After that he became the most sought-after player of the league. He then signed a contract with his present team the Washington Wizards. His first season with the Wizards was not that great but he enjoyed success during his second season with the team. He guided the team to its 45 win season and its first playoff berth since 1997. He led the team in with 25.5 points per game and 1.74 steals per game. On 2005-06 season he averaged 29.3 points, 2 steals and 6.1 assists per game. He was included in the 2006 All-Star Game because Jermaine O’Neal of the Indiana Pacers got injured. And he was the runner up to Dirk Nowitzki on the Three-point Shootout contest. During his career he set a record for the most points scored in 30 minutes when he scored 46 points in less then 30 minutes playing time on February 25, 2006 against New York Knicks, they also won that game with 110-89 score.
Arena’s popularity soared and he is now voted by the fans as an All-Star starter for the Eastern Conference in 2007. He overcame a 213,000 vote deficit at one point to edge out Vince Carter by just over 3,000 votes for the starting guard spot opposite Dwyane Wade.
